Dear Kansas City HRC Friends,

Year end is often a time to reflect on our many blessings … friends, loved ones, all those who have enriched our lives along the way. So, as this year winds down, we want to especially thank you, our KC HRC community, for your commitment to the Human Rights Campaign.

HRC in 2008

Working together, our accomplishments in the past year include further steps to ensure equal employment rights. HRC added numerous equality-minded corporations to our perfect-score list. We saw a Maryland ballot measure to repeal a new law prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity struck down by the state’s court of appeals. And closer to home, extensive lobbying efforts helped result in an executive order banning discrimination against GLBT government workers.

HRC also helped to elect a GLBT-supportive president and has begun a productive dialogue with the incoming Obama administration. And we’ve raised awareness of GLBT issues, including education on transgender issues. But there remains much to be done. With your help, we’ll achieve even more in 2009.

We hope you’ll start 2009 with us at the Season 6 Series Finale Premiere & After Party of The L Word. Two screenings are being held Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at the Screenland Armour in Kansas City, 408 Armour Rd., Kansas City, Mo. The VIP Showing begins at 3 p.m. with doors opening at 2 p.m. (tickets are $25/person in advance); the general showing is at 5 p.m. with doors opening at 4 p.m. (suggested donation is $10/person). RSVP today!

Join us for the kickoff of Third Thursdays at our new spot. Beginning Jan. 15, we’ll meet at the brand new Firefly Lounge from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Located at 4114 Pennsylvania Avenue, Westport, the Firefly just opened Dec. 5. It’s a modern speakeasy offering live entertainment and classic take on the bar scene at an affordable price.

  Candidates who see you working for them will know that they need to work for you; just head over to the campaign office of a candidate you support. Whether you have a day, an afternoon, or an hour, it will make all the difference in the world. Don't forget to wear your HRC gear so they know their LGBT consitiuents are behind them.

On November 4th, Election Day:

• Then make sure your friends, family, and co-workers do the same. Offer to take them with you if they need a ride.
