Commitment to Diversity

Reaching out to people and organizations who represent a variety of backgrounds, thoughts and experiences is vital to achieving HRC’s goal of fundamental fairness for GLBT Americans. That’s why diversity in all its forms is critical to the way we think and act.

We’re working to increase support for GLBT civil rights in the region and nationally by:

• Building reciprocal relationships with straight- and allied organizations, both locally-based and local chapters of national organizations
• Weaving diversity into all of our activities, events and outreach efforts, including the recruitment of members, volunteers and HRC-KC leadership

Recognizing organizations and individuals who lead by example is important. In 2006, for the first time, the Kansas City Steering Committee honored area businesses and organizations that support workplace equality for GLBT employees. Now these special “Celebration of Equality” events will recognize organizations with strong ties to the Kansas and Western Missouri region who earn high marks on the HRC Corporate Equality Index.

Kansas City-area companies are getting national attention for treating employees with equality. And the results are helping them attract and retain high-performing employees who appreciate working in a culture that does not discriminate. We’re proud to support and honor their efforts.
